OCEAN DORY FAQ

  • You will be meeting Captain Dodson in the Cape Kiwanda parking lot at 6:30AM, unless otherwise discussed, to go over safety procedures and protocols and sign waivers. There is a $10 fee to park in the parking lot with 2 pay-to-park kiosks located onsite - cash is NOT accepted.

  • We provide life vests and all of the fishing gear needed for the trip. Please let us know if you will need a child's life vest at the time of booking. Water is available on board.

  • A US Coast Guard License allows for up to 6 anglers. Children 5 years and older are welcome. Each passenger weighing over 400 lbs will be charged for 2 seats. No pets are allowed on board. We can accommodate larger parties with advance notice - please inquire.

  • Seasickness is always a possibility. If you are prone to motion sickness, you can take medication such as Dramamine or Bonine the night before the trip, and again in the morning at least 1 hr before your trip (follow dosing instructions on package). The most effective seasick medication seems to be “the patch” which is available by prescription only, so ask your doctor well in advance if you are interested in this option, and for tips on the best way to use it.

If you are feeling ill, it is important to tell Kyle right away. In the case of severe illness, we are able to make quick trips back to the beach to drop off the sick passenger. In most cases, we are able to relaunch to finish the trip - as long as it is safe to do so.

  • We have a portable toilet on board for those who need it.

  • We recommend wearing waterproof layers. Waterproof boots or sneakers are recommended - NO OPEN TOE SHOES. Waders are not necessary. We have some rain gear available to borrow with advance notice.

  • You are responsible for providing your own food and beverages. A dry bag is recommended for any additional items. Please be advised - space is limited.

  • You are responsible for obtaining proper fishing licenses (and catch cards for children under 12). You will need your angling license and your shellfish license (if you are crabbing). The 1 day angling & shellfish combo includes everything you need for a day of fishing with us. These are available online or the ODFW app.

IMPORTANT: You must register for e-tagging OR print your paper license for tagging salmon, prior to launching.

PLEASE DIRECT ANY ADDITIONAL LICENSING QUESTIONS TO ODFW

  • No - crabbing is an additional bonus to your guided trip. When the swell and/or wind come up it can make it potentially dangerous to pull crab pots in shallow water.

As we do not charge extra for crabbing, we do not offer any refunds if crabbing is cancelled for the day. We crab 95% of the time, but there are days we are not able to, so please plan for that possibility.

  • We do not currently offer trips to target halibut. On occasion, we will hook a halibut as bycatch while targeting bottom fish.

  • Our fish cleaning station is located at 26160 Sandlake Road, Cloverdale, OR 97112. We will clean and cook your crab and fillet and vacuum seal your fish. This takes approximately 2 hours - feel free to come see how it's done or go grab a bite to eat and a nap before picking up your catch. We recommend bringing a cooler if you plan on traveling.

  • Yes! We will vacuum seal and label your fish. There is a company in Tillamook that will assist with packaging and shipping it home to you. Please direct further questions to Debbie D’s Sausage.

You can also fly with your catch. Contact your airline directly for requirements.

  • Wheel chairs can be accommodated with prior notice. Hand rails are located throughout the boat to assist with balance.

  • Smoking of Tobacco is allowed on board, only as long as it isn’t bothering other guests. As a courtesy to non-smoking guests, please smoke downwind or near the stern of the vessel while underway. If the smoke is bothering other guests, the captain or crew may ask you to discontinue. Marijuana is not allowed in any form onboard.

  • Beer, wine, or wine coolers are allowed onboard in reasonable amounts. Liquor is not allowed. Please limit your intake while onboard. Drunkenness is not permitted at any time during a trip, and if a passenger exhibits signs, the captain reserves the right to instruct the passenger to remain seated for the remainder of the trip (for the safety of all guests and crew) OR end the trip in entirety. Refunds will not be given in such situation.
